Harry,

It makes sense to me. The same could have been accomplished by an
optional sequence containing the two elements but the introduction of a
group may help in terms of reusability.

I have submitted a proposal to refactor complex type Discounting, used
in
swapStream//calculation/discounting - please see the FpML Issues list
#524
(http://www.fpml.org/issues/view.php?id=524).

This should be a completely transparent change, not least because
discounting is rarely used (by the way, can anyone furnish some examples
.... ?), but it would enable us to retire a validation rule (ird-32) by
applying the constraint through schema instead.
