Re: FpML-VAL RE: FpML-AWG Teleconference 9-Apr

Matthew, Andrew,

I had not been aware that somebody had started an effort to define an infoset for FpML. I think this is an excellent idea, which is beyond the scope of just the validation working group. I very much hope that as the date discussions go ahead, this will be expanded.

I take it that this infoset will be clearly flagged as non-normative? While representing it in XML Schema seems natural, it may lead people to the wrong conclusion that this "schema" is part of the standard's document representation.

My apologies, I cannot make the meeting.

Regarding orphan types: It is possible to have a type used in the VWG’s validation rules, such as in a calculation, that is not used by an element or attribute in the schema. It might be an orphan in the schema, but not an orphan within wider FpML, because it is used in the validation rule calculations or function definitions.

At the moment the types used in the validation rules are collected into a separate schema. You can view this in: https://dedicated.fpml.org/svn/fpml/branches/validation-rules/src/validation/xquery/fpml-infoset.xsd. Today, this has only one entry, an element named period.

The VWG is doing a lot of work at the moment on resolving issues around the date calculations that will require more schema content to support them, especially for new functions.

Please don’t ban this feature used by the VWG without providing an alternative.
