Summary

The default scheme for currencies in FpML references the ISO 4217 standard for currency codes but this standard 'officially' only relates to active currencies and and does not include:

a) pre-Euro currencies that are still used to denominate some long dated securities that can be used a underlyings. We actively trade some DEM bonds for example.

b) offshore currencies used in finanicial markets such as CNH. We actively trade 5 offshore currencies.

It might be better for FpML to define its own scheme that includes all of these codes rather than reference one that does not.

Any thoughts?
